To Have It All!

Too often I’ve fallen into the trap of discontentment. Never satisfied. If only I had this. If only things were this way instead of how I’m living now. If only I could accomplish this endeavor, then I’d be happy. Without realizing it, I placed a good chunk of my happiness and a bit of my self-worth on the future.

Or

I’d adopt an extreme case of the “shouldas”. Shoulda done this. I shoulda completed this part of my schooling. I shoulda never wasted my time on this or that, etc. I’d contemplate what I could’ve done differently in the past that could’ve improved my manner of life.

But then I discovered something. Yes, God is the God of the Past and the Future, He knows the end from the beginning, but He’s the God of the present. Or like I’ve been thinking- The God of the NOW.

He wants me to live in the moment. I’m not to be absorbed in the past or consumed with the future, but to revel in the moment. It was during my pondering on this topic, that God revealed the truth of the matter—I have it ALL! And so do you!

2 Peter 1:3 ESV reads:

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence. (Bold font added 🙂  )

So if God in His awesomeness has already given me everything I need, then I am enough, NOW. I have it all, NOW. Not some random time in the future. NOW!!!! (Cue the excessive exclamation points 😉 )

Jesus is ALL I need, and He’s more than enough for me.

There’s a peace in knowing this. I can rest. I don’t have to wish my life away, hinging my contentment on the future nor do I have to fill my heart with regrets on how my life could’ve been. Why? Because God said I have it all. He’s provided for me. He’s endowed me with everything I need. And the only thing I have to do is just believe Him.

So friends, I encourage you to embrace the moment. To thank God for the gift He’s bestowed on you—the present. Today. Because truly, you have it all.

This song by Joy William’s relays the theme of this post 🙂

  1. This post was so encouraging! I tend to come down with the shouldas a lot. Many times over things that don’t even matter and I’m just as bad about looking to the future for something better. Thanks for reminding me to relax and live in the present.
